This is what a police states looks like folks.  On the day when we in this country are supposed to be celebrating our freedom FROM tyranny we have those who would subjugate us doing their best to do just that. 

We need to mobilize the gun owning public and make this go viral.  We may be beyond the point where shining the light of day upon this kind of action will kill it, but we are never beyond the point of fighting against this.

a couple of random thoughts on the state of our society.

So, I'm standing in line at the checkout counter at my local grocery store and I glance at the impulse rack. At the top is adult gummi vitamins.  And I'm left wondering why. 

Have we sunk that low that we can't, as adults, suck it up and take simple vitamins without lacing them with a spoonful of sugar?  I mean, I can understand children's gummi vitamins.  It's hard enough to explain to a little kid that "because it's good for you" is a valid reason to take something.  But seriously, if we're at the point that we have to do that for supposed adults, maybe it's time to rethink how we're raising people.

I've been hearing a lot of talk from the once and current swamp that is our nation's capital about Immigration reform.  They're talking of this reform. 

Now, I thought that if you were going about reforming some system, there was something broken with the system.  But the only thing that I can see that is broken is the government's willingness to enforce it.  The system was not and is not broke.  The system works absolutely as it should.  Which leaves me wondering what they're trying to cover up by calling it reform.

 

Helicopter Training.

More of the same today, pick ups, set downs, patterns and approaches, hover autorotations.

The big difference today is my phone got stolen while I was out flying.  So, I'm experiencing a little experiment in Keynesian economics.  Since my old old phone had died back in December, I had to play full price for this replacement.  So, $750 bucks there after the case and screen protector.  So, H'Ray for Apple and the case producer and the screen protector maker. They made money. So, Obmama and his Keynesian zombies are applauding.  Except... That $750 had to come from somewhere.  In this case, it's coming straight out of my helicopter training fund. 

So, boo. 

Basically, that's 2 hours of training that I can't afford to do now.  Which is that much in instruction pay out of my flight instructors pocket, that much in lost fuel sales for both my Jeep, and the helicopter. So, the airport looses out there and the .gov loose out on the lost tax revenue from everything.  That much in rental fees that the flight school looses. Then there's the mechanic at the airport, etc.  The list goes on. 

Plus the first thing I did was have both Apple and AT&T wipe that stolen phone.  So, it'll never work again.  And if they change the sim card and try to get Apple to reauthorize it, it'll come up as stolen.  Plus I had them rig it so it'll give whoever stole it a nasty rash on their face that will cause small children to scream in terror and adults to vomit at the sight of it.  So, have fun with that.

p.s. You think I'm kidding about the rash?  Guess again.

Life of a charter pilot...

My day.
Times in Eastern.

1:30 am.  Phone call from dispatch, possible ASAP pop up air ambulance trip.  Will know for sure by 3 am. Will call by then.  Just go back to sleep.

Yeah, right....

3:30-3:45 am.  Finally fall back asleep.  No phone call.

7:30  ASAP pop up trip, Home to Dayton, pick up, Peoria IL, drop. Come home. Promise you'll be back by 1:30.

Times in Central. from here on.

10:30  Land in Peoria, see passenger off.  Get call from dispatch.  Wait there to see if they can sell the airplane on a trip headed back towards home.  Will call one way or another in 2 hours.  This I foresaw.

Yeah, 2 hours, right.

2 pm. Call Dispatch, Ask why they haven't called.  Told to wait while they make a call to see what's going on.

2:30 Call Dispatch.  Told we could have launched for home "anytime".  Pay FBO for forehead shaped hole in wall.

106 knot tail wind, shaves 15 minutes off of flight.

Times back in Eastern.

4:15 pm.  Land back home.  tremors from caffeine make filling out logs... difficult...

5:15 Clear airport finally, Airplane cleaned, restocked, reset, Paperwork filled, filed and mutilated.

How was your day?

Listen, few of us have been in that situation.  That's why we "game" it out.  We think about that situation, map out strategies, actions, reactions, discuss the plans with the wife, girlfriend, Rover the dog, whoever.  Then we go to a quality range, either take a class, talk to, or hire a reputable instructor.  See what works, what's been done before, what they recommend. Then we go back re-imagine the scenario, remap the strategies, actions, reactions and plans and then re-discuss what we're gonna do and what we'd like anyone with us to do to either help or stay out of harms way during the situation.

And, for fucks sake, if you've gotten your concealed carry permit (if required by your state) or are carrying a weapon for self defense and you haven't thought about what to do in those situations. FUCKING STOP! FIGURE IT OUT! DON'T BE A MORON!

Both Libya's and Egypt's regime changes started as food riots. 

Now watch what current gas prices are doing to the price of a gallon of milk.

When gas hit this price at the pumps last time, Bush signed an executive order suspending the moratorium on oil exploration.  And gas prices plummeted to under 2 dollars a gallon in the space of weeks.  Mind you, no actual drilling took place. Just the fact that it could brought price speculation down.  This regime says they can't do anything about it, but they'll form a commission to look in on price gouging by the oil companies.  Seriously?  They banned exploration, banned new drilling, banned just about anything that would make us more energy independent as a nation and when prices do what they will do when that happens, they try to blame someone else.

But, I'm not surprised. This regime believes corporations are evil, that capitalism is evil, that freedom is evil, that being an adult and standing on your own two feet is evil.  This regime would love to see European prices at the pumps here in the states.  It would make their dream socialist state that much closer.

On a side note, have you seen some states are proposing a usage tax on electric and hybrid vehicles to help offset the drop in revenue from sale of gasoline?

Just some thoughts from a long drive.

The outgoing speaker of the house, based on her tactics and shenanigans, would have been one the the greatest Soviet Premiers of all time. All the dirty tricks and underhanded dealings and outright threats and corruption would have made Stalin proud. All she needs is a national gulag system to make her complete.... oh wait....

The tax compromise that was maybe almost reached this week. IT'S NOT A TAX CUT! In fact, it's worse than that, it's a 2 year temporary reprieve. Taxes are not going down, they're staying the same, so the situation that's existed for the last two years that's made this mess we're in, IT'S STILL HERE! On top of that we can't run on a temporary economy, that's what this "compromise" has created. Businesses are not going to expand or spend or whatever if they're staring at being in the pickle barrel in two years. And on top of that, 2 years is nothing in terms of business plans. They look at 5 and 10 year business models. I seriously doubt that any smart business will do anything if they know that just as they're getting started, they'll get slapped down with extortionate tax burdens. Looking at individuals, this equates to less than what most of us spend on car insurance per year. You think people are going to look at that 500 dollars and go all spendy crazy? Hell, no. Especially with the government printing money like it's going out of style and devaluing it in job lots. So, all that will happen is in 2 years when the next election cycle rolls around, is the dems will get to shout "SEE, LOWERING TAXES DIDN'T WORK!" Which is complete and utter bull shit. But if you say the lie often enough and loud enough it becomes the truth. The dems have proved that over and over the last few years.

The liberal mindset that will insist on demonizing the item and ignore the fact that it took a person to put that item to an evil purpose, is the same liberal mindset that's running DHS and TSA. They have time and time again refused to look at the people, under the guise of "Oh we can't profile, that's evil.", and demonized the fingernail clippers and bottle of shampoo that you have. We will not be be safe, we will not be anything other than a joke, till we change the mindset that runs these agencies. Listen, some people are bad. That's just the shit of life. And what's even shittier is some people do evil things for what they believe are good reasons. That's just the way it is. Interesting conversation today. Well, interesting in a pull-whats-left-of-my-hair-out sort of way. And interesting considering where I work and the type of people that frequent the place.

I met someone who doesn't vote.

"Okay", thinks I. "Why not?"

"I don't care to." hmmm.....

When pressed, she finally gave me these reasons (in no particular order);

1. I don't want to learn about all that stuff.
2. None of it is relevant to me.
3. My opinion doesn't count for that much. (Yes, she said opinion.)

Wow. Since I couldn't tell her what I thought of those reasons to her face, I get to take the chicken way and blog about them. I know, lucky you.

Here goes.

Reason one: Wow, how unimaginably lazy of you. Don't want to learn about all that stuff. Great, so... you just want someone to tell you which lever to pull and thats good enough for you. Congratulations! YOU ARE THE REASON WE'RE IN THE MESS WE'RE IN NOW! Thanks for playing, we have some nice parting gifts for you off stage.

Reason Two: She expanded on this reason by saying she happy living in her little corner and everyone can leave her alone since she's not bugging anyone else. Really, you think none of this is relevant to you? You want to know how not relevant it is to you? Look at your paycheck. See all that withholding? You realize you're working till late May every year just to pay for the DIRECT taxes that the government takes out? If the Bush "tax cuts" are allowed to expire, you'll be working till the end of June. Literally 50% of your pay will be taken by the government. Tell me how that's not relevant to you?

You know what? All this talk about flat rate or fair or just plain tax reform. Throw it out the window. What I want is a law that says the government can no long do withholding and everyone must write a check every month for what they have to pay in taxes. That more than anything else will bring about tax reform. The second people start actually seeing how much their losing they'll get pissed. Trust me.

Reason Three: Your vote doesn't really count for that much. That has got to be the most self-centered, egotistical, narcissistic thing I've heard since the last presidential address. You wont vote because your opinion doesn't count for that much. Guess what Princess Lookatme, your "opinion" counts for just as much as MY opinion. I wouldn't want it any other way. No, that's not entirely true, I want my opinion to count for more than yours, but that opens up the door for all sorts of political shenanigans and we don't want that. If you think your opinion is so fucking important that it should really REALLY count for more... Guess what, fuck you. I don't want you voting. We've got way to many narcissists in politics now.

Ultimately though, voting is a privilege. Everyone is free to not exercise that privilege if they so choose. But if you don't vote, don't bitch to me about what life hands you.

What's old is new again.

It seems that the dems are going to try to run on what worked for them in the past, namely Bush Bashing.

Okay, yes in the last election the democratic party won on a platform that basically read "Ebil Bush McHitlerburton is evil and you should vote for us because we're not."

But here's a news flash for ya. You have had the vast majority of both houses and the white house for more than 18 months now. Anything wrong with this country is YOUR FAULT. Got that? Your policies and agendas have had more than enough time to cause whatever good you wanted. They've also had plenty of time to screw things up, if that's what they were gonna do. Guess what? nearly 10% unemployment, tax revenues taking a dive for the basement, a national debt that chews up most of what taxes do bring in, it's all due to your handiwork in DC.

I was gonna say that the American people are not dumb enough to fall for the same song and dance twice. But honestly, so long as the bread and circuses continue, the majority of them probably will. Yes Alan, I'm a pessimist it seems.

It's sad that 2 years after the fact, the dems are still running against Bush, the younger. Honestly, I don't think he was that good of a president. Granted I think he's exponentially better than the current one, but he's no Reagan either.

What's will be even more sad is in 2012 or 2016 when they continue to run against Bush II. My advice is if you want to run against a ghost. How about Reagan or Lincoln or, hell, how about Washington or even Tyler. Hey, let's go classic, how about the ghost of Banquo from MacBeth.

Talking heads, talking drivel

So, I'm listening to talk radio on Sunday. It's the usual panel on political commentary that they air. Same time, same stuff. Then they got on to talking about the Tea Party and the tax day Tea Party events. At which point one of the talking voices stated that the Tea Party was mostly made up of "working class people". He went on in this vein for a bit all the while managing to make that label sound like "uneducated, uninformed redneck hick".

Fuck you, idiot radio voice guy.

You know what? I support the Tea Party and it's ideals. I'm for smaller government. I'm for making the "representatives" in DC actually listen to what the vast majority of the people in this country are saying. I'm for getting the government OUT of what it has no right being in in the first place like health care.

You know what else? I have a degree from an institution of "higher" learning. In fact I've got a degree in aerospace engineering. You know what that makes me? Yeap, I'm a fucking rocket scientist, you elitist douche bag! How's that for uneducated, you small minded uninformed hack?

You know what this rocket scientist thinks? I think that what differentiates the Tea Party movement from the rest of the country is the fact that we can fucking think for ourselves. We, unlike what appears to be the majority of the main stream media these days, can take an independent look at the FACTS and come to OUR OWN fucking opinions. Because I can damn sure bet you that we can run our own lives one hell of a lot better then the government thinks it can.

On the Nature of Executive Powers.

Anyway, I wandered across this article from the NY Times Online:

And of course, I had to go read up.

My first instinct was to say they're executive orders not executive powers, but actually the orders are part of the executive powers. And while there may not be anything specifically stated about them in the Constitution, people have pointed to Art. II Sections 1 and 3 for authorization to issue them.

But that's really beside the point. Executive orders have been issued since practically the founding of our government to help officers and agencies manage the operations within the federal government.

Also Executive Orders do have the full force of a law, but that's only because they're issued in pursuance of certain Acts of Congress.

Did you get that. Congress passes a law and the President can issue orders to help facilitate enforcing that law. This limit was put to the test when then President Truman tried to nationalize the US Steel Industry via executive order. Read Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. v. Sawyer if you want the details. That's very important. The President's use of executive orders is limited to the laws passed by congress. He can't just willy nilly whip out the old pen and make onsies mandatory bed time attire. No matter how much he likes them or how convinced he is that they are so so sososo soooooo gonna be good for the American Peons Serfs People.

What the great anointed one wants and is planning to do is use the power of the executive order to enact laws. Because he's not happy that his agenda hasn't been whole heartedly embraced by those of us who didn't drink the koolaid (Chris Matthews, sorry couldn't resist that. It sent a thrill up my leg.) He wants to try an end run around our system of government and try the autocratic system for a bit.

Just to try it on and see how it looks. Honest Injum. I'll put it all back where I found it. Pinky swears.

And he's not going to let a little thing like legal precedence against this sort of thing stop him.

I can see several things possibly happening here.

1. The adminstration realizes that they're overstepping their authority and refrain from trying this.
2. They announce it and the outcry from the hill and their own handlers shouts them down.
3. They go ahead and it spends years in the courts before being struck down.

Option 1? HA, yeah right.

Option 2? Well, it's more likely than Option 1 anyway.

My money is on option 3, but by that time the damage will already have been done.

Sometimes they never learn...

I hear a rolled up newspaper works. But that's mean and the ASPCA would get involved.

I know this is old news. I purposely wait to let the real facts have a chance to come out. But there's no denying it now. The mighty leader of the free world, the commander in chief of the best armed force on the planet, the hopes and dreams of millions will bow to anybody. And I mean anybody. Last week he reportedly bowed to the Mayor of Tampa. A freakin' mayor. Not some other head of state, not even a governor of the state he was visiting. He bowed to a mayor. Hey, there's a position open for dog catcher in one of the rural towns near me. Maybe I should run for that so I can get the Presi-fucking-dent of the United fucking States to bow to me.

Everyone is talking about this new "thumbs high" grip, which looks an awfully lot like the grip I was taught and have used for years.

Hell, I have had a rant about the decision to try the terrorists in civilian courts bouncing around in my head even.

A banner day for the stockmarket

Today as I was driving the voices on my talkradio box broke into the regularly scheduled program to announce that the DOW had just peaked above 10,000.

H'Ray....

Except that not 3 minutes later they had sound bites from various economists about what this meant. Now, for my local station to get all the way from Midwest US to NY and DC and back with interviews and everything...

It makes me think that this little market spike was orchestrated by the news-idjits to give them something positive to report.

It doesn't really matter that the Dow barely topped 10,000 and then immediately dropped back down. It doesn't matter that if you had blinked you would have missed the 10,000. What matters is that THEY say something good happened.

Okay, I'm no economist, I don't play one on TV and I didn't stay at a HIExpress hotel last night. But it seems to me that for there to be a REAL recovery in our economy, the job loss rate needs to turn into a job creation rate. So long as more people are losing jobs then are getting them, no amount of pie in the sky happy unicorn rainbow farts are going to turn the economy around.

Just my two cents.
